"Duo", fronts Brown Street and Carrick Street, within Glasgow’s new International Financial Services District, an area of the city centre located between Kingston Bridge and Glasgow Central Station. Glasgow City Council has high aspirations for the district, creating a priority zone for attracting major businesses and hotel operators with plans to attract around £800m of development. Making the most of a generous frontage to the river Clyde, extensive quayside improvements including a landmark pedestrian bridge and new parkland are planned nearby.
Glasgow City Council granted consent for the development in June 2009. The scheme, prepared by international architects, RMJM, comprises two medium-rise towers centered around a landscape courtyard. Tower 1 provides 206 purely residential apartments over 18 storeys and Tower 2 provides 135 apartments over 13 storeys and has the benefit of residential and/or serviced apartment uses. Both towers have an element of retail and commercial use on the lower levels. A landscaped courtyard and water feature will be creatively and thoughtfully designed to be enjoyed by all residents and visitors, encouraging activity and vibrancy at ground level. RMJM's concept for Brown Street is striking and innovative and sure to be beautifully realised to Frasers Property's usual high standards.
